Javier López Sanz / Artistic Director, violin

Javier López Sanz received his first musical training at the conservatory of his hometown, Guadalajara, Spain. Thanks to several scholarships – notably from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD-La Caixa) and the Spanish Ministry of Culture – he obtained a teaching diploma at the Conservatorio Superior de Salamanca with Isabel Vilá and an orchestral diploma at the Berlin University of the Arts with Ilan Gronich. He continued his studies in Switzerland, completing a Master of Arts in Performance (Interpretation and Concert) at the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne with Gyula Stuller, as well as a Master of Arts in Music Pedagogy at the Bern University of the Arts with Gertrud Weinmeister and Regula Schwaar Niederhauser, graduating with distinction.

During his studies, Javier performed as principal of the second violins in the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) and the Spanish Youth Orchestra, under the direction of Bernard Haitink, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Paavo Järvi and Lutz Köhler.

From 2008 to 2011, he played with the Spanish orchestra Real Filharmonía de Galicia. Following an internship with the Bern Symphony Orchestra, Javier has performed there regularly as an extra musician. Since 2013, he has also worked as an extra with various orchestras, including the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the SWR Symphonieorchester, the early music ensemble Les Passions de l’Âme and Camerata Bern.

Javier combines performing with his passion for teaching. He teaches violin at the Bern Conservatory and at the Music School Region Gürbetal (BE) and is director of the school’s symphony orchestra. After five years as a member of the team, he now assumes the role of Co-Artistic Director of the Swiss Symphony Orchestra of the Jeunesses Musicales, where he aims to pass on his knowledge and extensive experience as an orchestral musician and educator to young people with great enthusiasm.

Ola Sendecki / Violin

Ola Sendecki was born in Basel and was initially taught by Antonio Pellegrini (Pellegrini Quartet). She completed her studies at the Basel Music Academy with Alexander Van Wijnkoop (Bern String Quartet, Camerata Bern) and at the Lucerne Music Academy with Sebastian Hamann, from which she graduated with distinction. A scholarship took her to London for a year, where she studied with David Takeno and Detlef Hahn. During this time she attended master classes with Hansheinz Schneeberger, Ida Bieler, Latina Honda-Rosenberg, Guya Stiller, Ariane Matthäus and others.

Since her studies she has been very active in the chamber music scene, where she is involved in the areas of baroque, classical and jazz through to contemporary music. She is a founding member of the Kubus Quartet (2014-2020), which dealt almost exclusively with new music. Various chamber music formations in classical and contemporary music have taken her to numerous venues in Europe and overseas. She has played at the Lucerne Festival, the Yellow Lounge Berlin, the Luzern Change of Scenery, the Baden-Baden Autumn Festival and the Darmstadt and Donaueschinger Musiktage. Important collaborations with interpreters such as Uli Fussenegger (Klangforum Wien) or Graeme Jennings (Arditti Quartet), and composers such as Wolfgang Rihm or Georg Friedrich Haas, expanded her field of activity. She has also premiered solo and chamber music works by various composers. Working with the Swiss pianist Nik Bärtsch deepened her musical and chamber music intentions (Album Continuum ECM).

Since completing her studies, she has played regularly in orchestras such as the Lucerne Festival Strings, Orchestra of Europe and Camerata Schweiz. Since 2011 she has held a position at the music school in Binningen-Bottmingen. Working with young people and children is very important to her. She accompanies chamber music courses in Switzerland, Kosovo and France.
